Better known as Taman Impian Jaya Ancol or just Ancol, this is the largest and most popular amusement park in Jakarta and provides all classes and kinds of entertainment. It is specially designed for family recreation, with a water park, theme park (Dunia Fantasi, better known as Dufan), an art market, a Sea World oceanarium, golf courses, hotels, and a beach park. Ancol was built in Jakarta between Kota (Jakarta’s old city) and Tanjung Priok (Jakarta’s harbour) on reclaimed beach land that acts as a gateway for island trips to Kepulauan Seribu (the ‘Thousand Islands’).

The Marina, where hundreds of private boats lay anchor every day, is a good spot for marine recreation and sport with facilities including water cycles, canoes, sail boats and fishing gear. Stalls along the beach serve drinks and snacks while tents are available for sunbathers. The water park consists of six pools, including a flow pool, wave pool, spiral sliding pool, cascade pool and a splashing rainbow pool. There’s also a restaurant and souvenir shop. Pasar Seni, the art market, has a good variety of art on sale and there is an outdoor stage with live music.

The Oceanarium is the home of sea biodiversity. The fauna are very good acrobats - visitors can see trained dolphins, sea lions, and many more in the daily shows. The park also offers a number of restaurants and souvenir shops, while the 18-hole golf course offers another kind of beach atmosphere. A great venue is the two kilometre beach park, which is divided into different parts: Molek beach, Lake Beach, Ria beach, East beach, Festival beach and the newest, Carnaval beach. The latter has a different concept to the others - it has a 5.5m diameter stage and a capacity of around 10,000 people. No wonder this venue is used for huge events, like the recent Linkin Park concert and the International Kite Festival. Operating hours: 8am – 8pm (water park), 24 hours (beach), 9am – 5pm (Oceanarium).
