This Museum is still located in the historic Old Jakarta Kota area, to the East of Jakarta History Museum. Formerly house of Raan Van Justitie or high court of Justice which started operating on January 21st, 1870 and finally on 1976 former President Soeharto inaugurated it as the fine Arts and Ceramics Museum. The fine arts collection comprises numerous works of art of Indonesia painter, starting from the 19th up to 20th century and displayed according to the period. One of the paintings is came from the 19th century, a self-portrait of the famous painter Raden Saleh.
Theres also paintings by modern-day masters including those of Sudjojono, Afandi, Zaini, Dullah and Basuki abdullah. The collection of Fine Arts also displays sculptures, both of abstract and relativism schools, from age to age like Asmat totem. While the ceramic collection displays various ceramics both domestic and foreign. Local ceramics coming from regions in Indonesia like Kasongan, Plered, Malang, Bandung, Palembang, Kalimantan and others, most of which are of contemporary creation. The displayed foreign ceramic are generally of the 16th until early 20th century coming from China, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Europe and others. The museum also shows valuable Adam Malik, ex- Prime Minister of Indonesia, collection of rare ceramics and porcelains. For fine arts lover its really a place to enjoy. The Museum is open daily from 9am – 2pm, except Monday; Friday to 11am; Saturday to 1pm and Sunday to 3pm.
