Located on Tanah Abang area, this old building was originally owned by a Frenchman in 19th century. In 1952 the Department of Social Affairs bought the building and in 1975 it became the property of the Regional Government. After its restoration the house became the Textile Museum. The Museum consists of various textiles especially traditional textile, such as Songket or traditional brocade.
The array of beautiful textiles is very unique and some even rare kind of textiles, which are hard to find. For more information about the textile you can also visit the textile Museum Shop which featuring extensive book list over 500 titles. From advanced textile techniques to beautiful picture books to great children`s stories. And the noble thing is, all proceeds from your purchases support the exhibitions, educational programs and operations of The Textile Museum. People can also learn more by the courses they provide. Such as, Tie-Dye course, silk painting course, hand made batik and stamp batik short courses. This Museum is open daily, from 9am – 2pm; Friday to 11am; Saturday to 1pm.
