Actually this land was a cemetery (Kebon Jahe Cemetery) which turned into a park of inscriptions. Seeing the potentials, preservation and rearrangement of the selected inscriptions and gravestones, In 1975 the 1.3 hectare land cemetery was closed and the restored as a shaded and green park with various kinds of tropical plants grown on it, and has become a place of intensive supports for both artistic and historical values and inaugurated to be inscription Museum by the then DKI Jakarta Governor Ali Sadikin.

This cemetery it self was designed for the Dutch, especially for officials and important prominent figures. Some important Dutch figures whom buried here are Major General A.V Michiels, Dr. HF Roll (1867 – 1935) and Major General JHR Kohler (1818 – 1873). Olivia Mariane Rafles, wife of British Liutenant Governor Raffles, Miss Riboet, Soe Hok Gie and others also berries or moved to this location since the 17th century until the 1900s. The Park is open daily from 8am – 3pm, Friday to 11am and Saturday to 2pm. On Sundays and Holidays the park is closed.
