It s slightly out of Jakarta, but still Tangerang s most popular Mall is surely worth the visit. Located about 20 kilometers from the heart of Jakarta, lies the big, huge, super, or what ever you want to call it, Lippo Supermall Karawaci. They aim to make the one-stop mall idea a reality. It includes shops, entertainment, food, games, educational outlets, and also automotive shops. Just looking at the size of this mall, you can surely believe that they don t just exaggerate when they say you don't need to go anywhere else.
Starting from the biggest anchor tenants, Matahari and Rimo, these two department stores are a heaven when it comes to buying not-too-pricey items. The mall features a combination of general merchandise and also a wide selection of exclusive goods. From a total of approximately 300 stores, there are a couple of stores that also take up the most space, like Gramedia bookstore, Billiard Center, Le-Ciel (the factory outlet area), and of course, famous with nearby college students, Lippo 21 Cinema.
What’s new and can t be found anywhere else is their take on the food court. The size itself is huge, with big screen monitors and the highest food-court ceiling ever, at about 10 meters. While enjoying the food, people can watch entertainment that comes from the adjacent toyland, and the Timezone which shares the same space. This Timezone is actually the biggest one in the world, 4044 m2, even bigger than the original in Australia. It has many rides in it, but the most spectacular is the roller-coaster which circles and spins up to the ceiling. Its a really long ride, and really not recommended for eating your lunch.
A shoppers paradise is commonly perceived to be a woman s paradise. Men usually don t find enjoyment in spending the day shopping. To help change their minds the mall has created PASS, the place for buying car accessories, spare parts and service centers located inside the mall, with a total of 42 outlets offered. Here, people call themselves macho and can soup up their cars and paint them or add designs.
It s been around about 7 years since they first opened and now this gigantic but packed mall has competed with the newest trendy malls in town. In December, they are opening an area named Terrace Caf s, an open air seating area, with a range of food outlets like Starbucks Coffee, Gandhi Tavern, Sushi Tei, and others. Savor romantic outdoor scenery with dimmed lighting and water fountains, and serenades from a live band.
