Taman Anggrek Mall is a 7-storey building located in West Jakarta and known as one of the biggest malls in South East Asia. If Plaza Indonesia is connected to the adjacent Grand Hyatt Hotel, then this mall functions as the base floors to Taman Anggrek Apartment towers above. You might remember it as the prominent landmark on the toll road into Jakarta from the airport due to this 8 distinctive blue-topped apartments.
Stepping into the place you are enveloped in an enormous, tall, high-ceilinged-atrium, where several performances and exhibitions usually take place. Don t get confused because this mall offers more than 400 outlets and no less than three department stores, namely Rimo, Galeria Matahari and the latest, Metro. It is not a high fashion or trendy hangout per say, so it is highly recommended that you go with your family, because this mall s focus is mainly on recreation and family fun. The mall pioneered bringing in an Olympic-size ice skating rink into Jakarta s malls, and today this rink is still one good reason to come to the place, as is the cinema, Time zone, and the Warner Bros shop.
When it comes to food, Taman Anggrek is a leader in Asian food. Dapur Anggrek, the food court, offers hundreds of traditional regional specialties such as pempek (fish balls) from Palembang, South Sumatra, 27 kinds of sate at Aneka Sate Djitoe, or fried rice and noodle dishes galore. Restaurants like Eaton (Chinese), Sizzler (American) or the all-you-can-eat Hearts Chicken Buffet are very popular in this mall.
Top tips: Timezone and the Ice- Skating rink.
